NBC The Summer Ratings Champ Thanks To ‘AGT’

Reading Time: 2 minutes
As comes as no surprise to us, NBC won the ratings wars this summer thanks in large part to America’s Got Talent. Though they didn’t rack up the kinds of numbers they did in season 12, they still crushed everyone else. Not only on the night that the show was on either. After The Big Bang Theory, AGT is the highest rated show on network TV.
The two night finale last week got a little under 12 million viewers. This is more than half again as much as the next highest competitor. 12 million people tuned in to see Shin Lim take the big prize. For some reason, the year before when Darci Lynne won the show did even better. I guess the fact that she had one of the most watched viral videos of the year on YouTube helped. One of the reasons that AGT does so much better than all the other shows we cover is that it’s a true family show. Unlike The Four, for example, is watched mainly online and streaming which isn’t counted in the ratings. Tis is due to The Four having a younger audience. AGT is the kind of show that the whole family can gather around the TV to watch. This equals higher ratings and more money for Simon Cowell.
We’re not hating on it. AGT deserves all of the success it has. It is a truly unique show that brings us things we simply cannot see anywhere else. There are a lot of singing show, but how many programs would feature Yumbo Dump? Not many.
