Miley Cyrus had a wild night at Sunday’s Grammys. Not only did she perform her song “Flowers,” but she also won the first two Grammys of her career. Cyrus also had a funny moment on the red carpet before the show.
Miley Cyrus Wins First Grammy for Song ‘Flowers’
During Sunday’s ceremony, Cyrus won her first Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance. She received the award from Mariah Carey and told the audience, “I just got stuck in the rain in traffic and thought I was gonna miss this moment. And I could have missed the award, that’s fine, but not Mariah Carey.”
She then told a story about a little boy who wanted a butterfly for his birthday but couldn’t catch one with a net. When he finally gave up, a butterfly landed on his nose. Cyrus finished her speech by saying that her song “Flowers” is “my butterfly.”
Later in the ceremony, Cyrus won Record of the Year for “Flowers,” bringing her total number of Grammys up to two. The singer said she hopes the award “doesn’t change anything,” explaining, “My life was beautiful yesterday. Not everyone in the world will get a Grammy, but everyone in this world is spectacular.”
After thanking several people, Cyrus joked, “I don’t think I forgot anyone, but I might have forgotten underwear. Bye!”
Ahead of the Grammys ceremony on Sunday, Cyrus walked the red carpet in a sheer gold outfit by Maison Margiela, accessorized by a voluminous hairstyle that drew comparisons to her godmother Dolly Parton.
While the photographers took her picture on the carpet, Cyrus questioned some of their equipment, asking incredulously, “iPhones? What is that?”
Later, during the show, Cyrus took the stage to perform “Flowers.” As she started singing the chorus, she called out the audience for not singing along, asking them, “Why are you acting like you don’t know this song?”
Toward the end of the song, Cyrus also shared her excitement over her earlier win, shouting, “I just won my first Grammy!”
