LeBlanc and Perry co-starred on Friends as roommates Joey Tribbiani and Chandler Bing. Both actors were Emmy-nominated for their performances in the 10-season sitcom. Sadly, Perry passed away on October 28 at the age of 54.
“It is with a heavy heart I say goodbye. The times we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life,” LeBlanc wrote in his tribute to Perry. “It was an honor to share the stage with you and to call you my friend. I will always smile when I think of you and I’ll never forget you. Never.”
LeBlanc ended his post by writing, “Spread your wings and fly brother you’re finally free. Much love.” He also added a sweet joke to the caption, telling Perry, “And I guess you’re keeping the 20 bucks you owe me.”
Perry passed away on October 28. He was reportedly found in a hot tub and appeared to have drowned. Following an autopsy, Perry’s cause of death was listed as “deferred,” pending additional investigation.
Perry’s Co-Stars Released a Statement After His Death
A few days after his death, Perry’s Friends co-stars (LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, and David Schwimmer) released a joint statement to People magazine reacting to the tragedy.
“We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family,” the actors shared. “There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”
The statement goes on to say that the cast “will say more, as and when we are able.” They closed it by saying, “For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”
