Masked Wolf Gears Up for Big Performance on ‘The Voice’

The Voice has been stepping it up with performances during the live shows this season. Tonight’s episode will feature Masked Wolf, a Greek-Australian rapper who went viral with his music video for the song “Astronaut In The Ocean.”
Masked Wolf Set to Take the Stage on ‘The Voice’ Results Show Tonight
Masked Wolf, whose real name is Harry Michael became an internet sensation with “Astronaut in the Ocean” this year. The song was originally released in 2019 and re-released in 2021 leading up to its massive success. The music video for the song now has over 123 million views on YouTube.
“Astronaut in the Ocean” peaked at number seven on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. After the success of the “Astronaut in the Ocean” re-release, G-Eazy and DDG joined Masked Wolf for the remix, which dropped last week. The achievements behind the song have been a bit of a shock for the new rap star.
 “I never felt like ‘Astronaut’ was going to be a hit like it is now,” Michael told Billboard. “I 100% knew it was a banger and would slap pretty hard, but I didn’t know if people would grasp and want to know the meaning behind it.”
TikTok Helped the Rapper Gain Some Momentum
Amid the pandemic, the song got a bit of a boost from TikTok. The platform is known for turning new artists’ songs into some of the world’s biggest hits. Over 12 million TikTok users have played some variation of the song in the background of their videos, easily making it one of the most popular songs heading into the summer.
He was able to perform the song at Gold Coast Lunar Electric Music Festival in Australia in March. During a time where live music is an absolute treat, he gained even more notoriety and momentum as an up-and-coming artist.
In April, he was invited to perform “Astronaut in the Ocean” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. This performance was epic, with rain falling down from the ceiling as he rapped. This has set the bar for what we can expect to see from Masked Wolf on The Voice.
Masked Wolf is slated to perform Tuesday on The Voice while the Top 9 learn their fate in the competition. You can catch the episode tonight at 8 PM ET on NBC and will probably have “Astronaut in the Ocean” stuck in your head for the rest of the summer.
