Lizzo Threatens to Quit Music Over Body-Shaming Comments

Lizzo took to Twitter earlier this week to respond to body-shaming comments she’s received. The singer wrote that she was close to “giving up on everyone and quitting” before locking her Twitter account on Wednesday.

Lizzo Responds to Body-Shaming on Twitter

Entertainment Weekly shared screenshots of Lizzo’s tweets from before she locked her account. The singer responded to a viral tweet commenting on a recent performance, which read, “How is Lizzo still THIS fat when she’s constantly moving this much on stage?! I wonder what she must be eating.”

Lizzo wrote that “this is the type of sh*t I see about me on a daily basis,” adding that it’s “really starting to make me hate the world.” She wrote that she’s “literally just trying to live and be healthy,” emphasizing that “BEING FAT ISN’T MY ‘BRAND’.”

When someone suggested she should stop searching her name so she wouldn’t see negative comments, Lizzo wrote that she isn’t searching for these posts, but “this stuff just comes up on my TL and my FYP.”

“Y’all don’t know how close I be to giving up on everyone and quitting and enjoying my money and my man on a F*CKING FARM,” Lizzo wrote.

The Singer Addressed the Situation in Concert

Although Lizzo’s tweets are now protected, her Instagram is still public. Earlier this week, she shared a video from a recent concert in which she held up a fan’s sign which read, “I’M SORRY PEOPLE ON TWITTER SUCK. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL & SPECIAL.”

“This should never come with the territory of being a person, a human being, of existing,” Lizzo told the crowd. “If no one’s told you today, I love you. You are beautiful. And you can get through anything.”

She later posted a video showing off a few pieces from her shapewear line Yitty, starting things off by saying, “Everyone’s been wondering, ‘What has Lizzo been eating?!’ I’ve been eating the whole United States up with this Yitty haul, b*tch.”
