“Just three guys who plan on spreading a little light in the world. Happy Birthday @PaulMcCartney!” Richie captioned the post.
Richie is rocking his signature mustache in the photo and looks exactly the same as he does now at 71 years old. He leans on McCartney in the photo who performed with The Beatles for a decade before going solo. McCartney worked on the song “Say Say Say” with Jackson in 1983. The duo also worked on the song “The Girl Is Mine” off of Jackson’s Thriller album. The musical connections here are endless.
Richie and Jackson penned the 1985 hit “We Are The World” to benefit African famine relief. “We Are The World” won Song Of The Year at the 1986 Grammy Awards. The song raised over $75 million for famine relief in Africa. It took home three other Grammy Awards and landed on the charts all over the world. Richie was joined by huge music artists to reprise the song at Jackson’s 2009 memorial.
Richie is notoriously known for posting throwback photos with music legends and celebrities to celebrate their birthdays. He posted a photo with Prince on June 7 on what would have been his 63rd birthday. He also posted a photo tribute to supermodel Naomi Campbell to celebrate her birthday on May 22.
The “All Night Long” singer will be heading back to Las Vegas this fall to perform at the Encore Theatre. Tickets are on sale now. Richie also plans to tour Europe in the summer of 2022. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Richie had a residency at the Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood.
