ABC and Disney called Lionel Richie and said, “Hello…it was you we’re looking for.” In other words, Richie has been chosen for the third spot on the judge’s stand on the reboot of American Idol alongside Katy Perry and Luke Bryan. It’s a pretty excellent choice.
A few months ago ABC announced that they had landed Katy Perry as the host of the robooted show that premieres next year. They reportedly are paying 25 million dollars for the privilege of her presence. They also brought back original host Ryan Seacrest for another 15 million. There was speculation that they didn’t have enough money for the other two judges. Last week we told you that country star Luke Bryan was also coming on board. Now, with only weeks before auditions begin, they chose music legend Lionel Richie for the last spot.
I’m not sure how they are paying Bryan and Richie. Maybe in production deals with Disney and Arby’s coupons? Hard to say. Richie is a good pick. After all he’s been in the music business for over 50 years. He started out with the Commodores back in the 70’s and then had a huge solo career in the 80’s. I look forward to seeing what he brings to the show.
