Lionel Richie is joining the lineup for the 2022 New Orleans Jazz Fest. The legendary singer announced on his Twitter that he will be performing hits from his expansive music catalog. Jazz Fest is set to take place from Friday April 29 through Sunday May 8. The Who, Stevie Nicks, Foo Fighters, and Erykah Badu are all scheduled to also headline.
This marks the return of the concert series after the Covid-19 pandemic forced organizers to cancel the event in 2020 and 2021. It has been three years since the highly anticipated music celebration headed to the New Orleans Fair Grounds.
This isn’t Richie’s first time at the historic week-long event. The American Idol judge performed on the stage in 2006, 2010, 2018, and 2019. It is a much welcomed return for the artist who gave us hits such as “Hello,” “All Night Long,” and “Dancing On The Ceiling.”
The New Orleans Jazz Fest is a staple in the music community. The concert series first launched in the 1970s and is a concert that has been compared to Coachella and Woodstock. Jazz Fest is a non-profit organization with a purpose to continue to ensure that New Orleans’s cultural legacy lives on for future generations. The foundation has awarded more than $1.2 million to art education programs so far.
Lionel Richie’s Legendary Career
The ultimate music man continues to show why he has had a successful career for over 50 years. From his start with The Commodores to his solo career that launched in the 80s, Richie’s success should be a study for all musicians. This is the artist who wrote “We Are The World” with Michael Jackson, arguably the biggest song ever produced.
While most of his peers have disappeared from the limelight, Richie is showing us all what longevity looks like. He is still as popular as ever. His Residency at Wynn Las Vegas has been extended into 2022 and of course we cannot forget his American Idol judging duties.
The new season of Idol kicks off February 27, and will have Richie once again discovering new talent with the help of Luke Bryan and Katy Perry. Tickets for The New Orleans Jazz Fest are available now.
