Kelly Clarkson Spoke About Struggling With Depression With Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato has long been an advocate for mental health and has been open about her struggles with depression. Being a guest on The Kelly Clarkson Show really led both of the singers to bond over their shared past struggles. Kelly praised Demi saying “I love how open you are about mental health because I have similar issues, and I suffer from depression.” Kelly was warmly received for her honesty by Demi as she continued to give a very personal narrative with her experiences with depression. “Especially as a woman, it’s like, ‘Don’t let them see you sweat.’ I just love that you’re open about that because not everybody’s as vulnerable being like that. And I think it’s helpful for your fans.”

This comes while Kelly is in the middle of a divorce after seven years of marriage. She shares two children with Brandon along with two stepchildren. Kelly has openly said that quarantine during the coronavirus pandemic has been tough for her but she has always been a hands-on mom. In an interview with Glamour, Kelly said “I have been on an emotional roller coaster.” She continued on to say that as a working parent, she is exhausted from cooking and cleaning for her children. This, along with homeschooling her kids during the coronavirus pandemic has been a lot for her to deal with. “Everything has been crazy,” she said of her role as a working mom. In between coaching The Voice and taking care of her kids, Kelly always finds the time, to be honest, and open on her show.

Kelly’s Focus On Mental Health Comes From Years Of Being Ridiculed For Her Body

In the past, Kelly has spoken about her struggles with her mental health when it came to her weight. After battling bulimia when she was just a teenager, she said that she was pushed to look a certain way when she entered the music industry after winning American Idol. “When I was really skinny, I wanted to kill myself,” Kelly said in an interview with U.K. magazine Attitude. “I was miserable, like inside and out, for four years of my life. But no one cared, because aesthetically you make sense.” Fortunately, she later realized she should cut off the people that were pressuring her to lose weight instead of leaving the music industry entirely. But it definitely weighed on her and it’s something she has been very open about.
