Katy Perry recently gave fans the inside scoop into her Play Las Vegas residency. Play- Road to Residency: The Story premiered on Perry’s YouTube channel this past weekend. The video included Perry alongside her creative directors as they explained how her show became one of the hottest tickets on the Las Vegas strip.

Road to Residency mixed in animation as well as interviews from Perry, Ashley Evans, and Antony Ginandjar. Evans and Ginandjar’s Squared Division directed and choreographed the five-act show. Play, which takes place in Resorts World Casino, opened on December 31 to rave reviews.

The colorful show has Perry in her element with high energy and quirky looks, as she performs her biggest hits. The duo behind Play actually came up with the concept 15 minutes before they arrived at Perry’s Santa Barbara house.

“We were actually toying with an idea that wasn’t gluing,” Perry said.

As the three contemplated, Evans looked out the window and had the thought of Perry playing herself as a doll. Spectators of Play have witnessed Perry’s larger-than-life show. With life size toy props that dazzle the audience, Perry’s latest show is a real life Toy Story.

“Well I always wanted to be in Honey I Shrunk the Kids, so If I could be a doll and we could mesh those worlds, I am in it 100%,” Perry said.

Play has become such a huge hit because of the thought that has gone into the story of the show. Fans go on a journey that shows Perry’s doll chosen by “not the best kid.” The doll has dreams of a better life. The singer is put through “literal hell,” which is shown throughout each act of Perry’s show, until the doll is found by a young girl. The character is Perry paying homage to her daughter Daisy Dove Bloom.

Perry coming to Las Vegas has been worth it for Sin City. The singer has earned 7 million from the eight reported 97% sold-out dates and drew a total of 31,933 attendees.

Perry fans are ecstatic now that the American Idol judge announced that she is continuing Play with added dates beginning in May and throughout the summer.
