Singer-songwriter Bonnie McKee recently shared her desire to reconnect with pop sensation Katy Perry and create music together once more. McKee’s revelation came during a candid interview with Rolling Stone, where she expressed her openness to reignite the creative partnership that had once produced chart-topping hits.
Bonnie McKee is Open to Working With Katy Perry Again
Despite the passing of several years without contact, McKee remains optimistic, stating, “I would love to work with her again.” While the reasons behind their prolonged silence remain unclear, there have been no reports of any feuds or disagreements between the two talented artists.
McKee nostalgically reminisced about their previous collaborations, describing a “cosmic connection” that allowed them to effortlessly craft hit after hit. The musical synergy between McKee and Perry was so profound that they would often finish each other’s sentences. Fans of Perry even affectionately dubbed the duo “Konnie McPerry,” because of how inseparable they are when making music.
Together, McKee and Perry joined forces on three of Perry’s albums: Teenage Dream (2010), Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection (2012), and Prism (2013). Their combined efforts resulted in a string of chart-topping singles, including “California Gurls,” “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F),” “Part of Me,” “Teenage Dream,” and “Wide Awake” from the Teenage Dream era.
McKee also contributed her songwriting talents to Perry’s Prism album, co-writing the hit tracks “Ghost,” “Legendary Lovers,” “Birthday,” and “Roar.” Astoundingly, five out of the nine songs they collaborated on reached the number-one spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

McKee Went Her Separate Ways With Perry After Prism
In a 2013 interview, McKee spoke highly of her friendship with Perry, revealing that their bond predated Perry’s rise to international stardom. McKee commended Perry’s evolution from a coffee-house singer-songwriter to a commanding force on the world stage, applauding her ability to maintain a balance between her public and personal life.
While McKee’s work extends beyond her collaboration with Perry, having written for artists such as Taio Cruz, Britney Spears, Kesha, Rita Ora, and Adam Lambert, her desire to work with Perry again speaks volumes about the creative magic they once shared. McKee’s recent release, the single “Slay,” which serves as the lead track from her upcoming album Hot City set to drop this fall, has garnered attention, fueling anticipation among her fans.
McKee’s path as a solo artist has faced challenges, as she encountered a setback in 2013 when her former label, Epic Records, decided to shelve an entire album despite the success of her solo single, “American Girl.” Nonetheless, McKee remains resilient, and determined to forge ahead with her music.
