Reading Time: 2 minutes
Katy Perry was recently a guest on the Call Her Daddy podcast, where she took a moment to respond to the backlash she has received for working with music producer Dr. Luke on her new album 143. Singer Kesha has accused Dr. Luke of sexual abuse.
Katy Perry Addresses Working with Dr. Luke on New Album
Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper told Perry that people have been “really upset” over her collaboration with Dr. Luke on her upcoming new album. She asked the singer why she chose to work with such a controversial figure.
“Look, I understand that it started a lot of conversations,” Perry answered. “And he was one of many collaborators that I collaborated with. But the reality is it comes from me. The truth is I wrote these songs from my experience of my whole life going through this metamorphosis. And he was one of the people to help facilitate all that — one of the writers, one of the produers.”
Perry added that she’s “speaking from my own experience” on the album, going on to talk about her song “Woman’s World.” She said she feels “so empowered now as a mother, as a woman, giving birth, creating life.”
The singer said she “created all of this with several different collaborators,” including people that she’s worked with since her Teenage Dream era.

People Aren’t Satisfied with Perry’s Response
Many people on social media shared their belief that Perry seemed to be dodging the question about working with Dr. Luke. As one user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “She said everything except answer the question.” Another wrote that she seemed to be “beating around the bush.”
Other users said Perry actually made things worse with her answer, which seemed to be more about her experience as a mother than her choice to work with a controversial producer. One person called her response “tone deaf.”
