American Idol judge Katy Perry is being criticized after she shared a photo of herself voting for Los Angeles mayoral candidate Rick J. Caruso. Although Caruso recently changed his party to Democrat, he has been registered as a Republican in the past.
Katy Perry Receives Backlash After Voting for Rick Caruso
On Monday, Perry posted an image of herself at a voting machine, smiling and giving a thumbs up as she showed that she was voting for Rick J. Caruso. She wrote in the caption that she was “voting for a myriad of reasons (see the news) but in particular because Los Angeles is a hot mess atm.”
Many social media users have criticized Perry for voting for Caruso, a billionaire who changed his party to Democrat earlier this year after previously supporting Republicans such as George W. Bush. Some users also pointed out the irony of Perry retweeting a pro-choice video shortly before voting for Caruso.
Earlier this year, Caruso claimed to be pro-choice. However, he has donated to anti-abortion politicians and was quoted in 2007 as saying he “opposes abortion in most cases but would support some stem cell research.”

Fans Alter Image of Perry Voting for Caruso
The photo of Perry voting for Caruso has led to some interesting Photoshop work from fans. One Twitter user changed the photo to make it look like Perry was watching Peppa Pig on the voting screen. They claimed this was the real photo and told people to “stop spreading misinformation.”
Another user pointed out that the photo had been altered, writing, “katy perry posted herself voting for a republican today and her stans are scrambling.”
Someone else posted another edited version of the photo that makes it look like Perry is voting for a category in the 2022 MTV EMAs. They wrote, “Katy Perry has voted Nicki Minaj for #emas.”
Perry isn’t the only American Idol judge who has recently been criticized over politics. Luke Bryan was slammed last month for welcoming Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on stage at his concert.
You are alowed to vote for who you want it is a freedom for every citizen of United States 🇺🇸 I love that she exercised it. Leave her alone.
Seriously, who cares if she voted for this guy. I thought we wanted to put all democrates in office and that is what she is doing. I dont trust anyone in office but i had to vote the best i could and thats democrate too. So vote however you want and stop judging others for how they vote. In the long run it really doesnt matter, we are just voting in the same type of people, they just happen to be affiliated with different party names.
No. Republicans don’t spend the country’s money like it’s there’s. We need to buckle down and look at the big picture. Let’s face it that Joe Biden has this country a mess and we need someone strong and smart like TRUMP. I’D VOTE FOR HIM AGAIN IN A HEARTBEAT.
