Katharine McPhee, David Foster Set to Release a Christmas EP
Reading Time: 3 minutes
American Idol alum Katharine McPhee jokingly reveals that she guilt-tripped husband David Foster to create an album with her. Consequently, the married couple will release a Christmas EP this year.
Katharine McPhee “Guilted” David Foster into Making an EP
For their first ever Christmas music collaboration, Katharine McPhee and David Foster will issue a seven-song EP. This is also the first time in 17 years that McPhee will be recording with the record producer, the first being in American Idol.
In a recent interview with People, the American Idol alum stated that Christmas will always be a sentimental holiday for them. When they began their romance in 2017, Foster tried to get her by throwing a Christmas party for her and her friends.
“I think I guilted David,” McPhee said. “I said something like, ‘It’s really crazy I’m married to the greatest producer, basically of our lifetime, and I’ve only had you record me on a few songs.’ Then he said, ‘OK, well, why don’t we just do a Christmas album?'”
Their EP is a compilation of reimagined Christmas songs accompanied by a big band. A “Jingle Bell Rock” rendition will be the lead single of the EP.
According to Foster, the entire process of recording with McPhee was “easy.” He said that he got to arrange the tracks the way he likes and have her wife’s voice plugged in.
“There were a couple of songs we were talking about that we didn’t know whether she could handle or not, but she handled them like a pro,” Foster said.
In choosing what songs to put in the EP, the couple intended to just record the classics. Additionally, Foster made a rendition of a single titled “Grown-Up Christmas List.” Their EP will be out on November 25.
Foster Doesn’t Regret Having a Baby in His 70s
In 2021, the couple welcomed their first child together, Rennie David Foster. Although having a baby is not something Foster expected, the record producer doesn’t regret it.
“I’ve loved every single day,” he said.
For those who may not know, the record producer has been married four times before McPhee and had five daughters in those marriages. Fully aware about the public’s criticism regarding their 34-year age gap, Foster hopes that people would be more understanding.
“I think we’re over that hump now with five years of being together,” he said, “and hopefully people just start looking like we belong together because we feel like we do.”
On the other hand, McPhee stated that she doesn’t care about what people say. She added that she loves her and Foster’s history, from “how we met and where we are now.”
