Jordin Sparks Releases Song ‘Breath of Life’ for an Important Cause
American Idol Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks has a new song out called “Breath of Life.” The collaboration with Bernie Williams raises awareness for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Williams’ late father suffered from the condition, and Sparks was happy to join the song’s cause.
Jordin Sparks Teams Up with Bernie Williams for New Song
Williams is a former baseball player for the Yankees who has pursued a career in music since retiring from the sport. His father passed away from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in 2001. The disease causes scar tissue to form in the lungs, affecting one’s ability to breathe.
The musician joined Boehringer Ingelheim’s “Breathless” campaign to raise awareness about the disease. He recently teamed up with Jordin Sparks to record the song “Breath of Life (Para Don Berna).” Williams had composed the song for his father, and he opened a contest to add lyrics to it.
The song’s lyrics ended up being written by David DePinho, and Sparks joined Williams to record the song. As Sparks explained on The Real, she doesn’t personally know anyone suffering from IPF, but she felt Williams’ “passion” for raising awareness.
“For me, anywhere that I can lend a hand, what is my platform for if I can’t do that?” Sparks shared.

Sparks provides the vocals on “Breath of Life,” as Williams plays guitar. The pair released a music video in which they’re backed up by piano and violin while performing the song. At the end of the video, it’s revealed that contest winner David DePinho wrote the song in memory of his mother.
“You have given me everything / Bringing love to my world,” Sparks sings in the emotional ballad. “You know it’s true, I can get up when I fall / I can still stand tall because of you.”
In 2020, Sparks returned with her first solo music in five years, releasing an EP called Sounds Like Me and a Christmas album called Cider & Hennessy. Then last year, she competed on The Masked Singer as Exotic Bird, making it to fifth place.
