JoJo Siwa Says Nickelodeon Won’t Let Her Perform New Songs on D.R.E.A.M. the Tour
Reading Time: 2 minutes
JoJo Siwa will not be performing music from her new movie during her upcoming tour. Nickelodeon notified Siwa that she would not be allowed to perform songs from The J Team in September 2021. I don’t think Nickelodeon realizes that they’re possibly losing profit from this decision.
The J Team by Nickelodeon premiered exclusively on Paramount+ on September 3. This movie takes viewers along the journey of young JoJo getting kicked out of her dance trope. Siwa goes through a period of discovery within the film in relation to song and dance. It sounds like the perfect mix of a musical and coming of age tale.
Nickelodeon’s decision has the possibility to shatter the earth of some of Siwa’s biggest fans. It doesn’t make sense as to why she wouldn’t be performing her new music.
With all that being said, Nickelodeon has the right to JoJo’s legal name and everything else that went into the film and her character. On top of that, the tour Siwa is going on clearly states that Nickelodeon is the one who set it up. I seriously don’t understand their business mentality here. The tour is named “Nickelodeon’s JoJo Siwa D.R.E.A.M. The Tour” wouldn’t they want her to perform songs from her recent Nickelodeon film?
Nickelodeon, I’m Questioning your Business Strategies
For a star like JoJo Siwa, you’d think the network would be ecstatic about her going on tour, but it seems like something really weird is going on.
If I had to guess, I’d say the network wants to keep the film as exclusive as possible. You’re making a lot of revenue from the tour itself, but have you ever thought your subscriptions might go up if Siwa performs a song from the exclusive film?
I think when it comes down to it, Nickelodeon wouldn’t want Siwa to perform these new songs on tour unless they took away the free trial on the service. They’re probably thinking it wouldn’t make them extra revenue if people use the free trial to gain access to the film. Although I understand the capitalist mindset, shouldn’t you have more confidence that people would like your subscription service?
It’s no secret that there are far too many subscription services. But, anyone who binges shows knows that seven days isn’t enough to see everything you want to see. Paramount Plus is home to RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, iCarly, an immense amount of throwback shows, and ] more. They offer so many different shows in such a wide range of genres, so I really don’t get it. Shouldn’t they want the JoJo Siwa tour to bring people to their subscription service?
