Jennifer Lopez Says ‘Marry Me’ is Like “Joining My Two Worlds Together”

Jennifer Lopez is one of the most passionate celebrities in the game. She’s multi-talented and has never given up on her dreams to become a singer, dancer, and actress. Recently, Lopez shared that her career is a dream come true. In her upcoming film Marry Me, she plays a character that is similar to her real life.


“This is a dream come true, everything I do, every single day. I feel so incredibly blessed, I feel so lucky to be doing what I’m doing. I always wanted to sing, I always wanted to dance,” Lopez said. “My mother loved musicals, she showed me them from when I was very, very little, and I just had all these dreams of doing that. So now I’m doing it.”

It’s no secret that Lopez has been on top of the world for quite some time. She has quickly become one of the most well known names in Hollywood. When talking about her upcoming film Marry Me on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actress expressed her gratitude for where she is.

Marry Me Sees Lopez Sing, Act

In Marry Me, Lopez plays a singing sensation, Kat Valdez. The film follows Lopez’s character who was set to marry her pop star boyfriend on stage in front of her fans. Before the ceremony, Valdez finds out that her fiancé was cheating on her. In the moment she decides to marry a total stranger (Owen Wilson) in the crowd who’s holding up a sign that reads “Marry Me.” Viewers follow the two through their journey of finding true love.


When Lopez talked about the film, she mentioned that it was her first time singing and making an album for a project. In the past she’s been in the movie Selena (about Selena Quintanilla) which featured tons of music, but it wasn’t a film where Lopez also sang. Instead, music sang by Quintanilla was used.

“It’s like joining my two worlds together. I also got to play a character who was, a lot like myself,” Lopez said. “In the spotlight, personal life, public life, trying to make it all work, failing miserably at times. It’s a really really great look of behind the behind the scenes.”

During the interview, Lopez and Fallon touched on the fact that the TV host has two cameos in the upcoming movie. Lopez shared that Fallon’s character is roasting hers and she got to show what it can be like behind the scenes. The scene humanizes celebrities when it comes to their reactions to the late night hosts.


Since Lopez has a career as large as her character’s, this film hits home for her. Throughout her career she’s had crazy signs like the one Wilson’s character holds in the film. She’s lived the life firsthand and knows what it’s like to have to live the behind the scenes of fame. Marry Me releases on both Peacock and in movie theaters on February 11.
