Could Jennifer Hudson be the next big talk show host? According to new reports, the American Idol alum is pitching a new show to potentially make its debut after Ellen Degeneres finishes her final season.
According to Variety, the show would be produced by the same team as Degeneres’s show, although it wouldn’t be a continuation of that show but rather an entirely new series.
Jennifer Hudson Is Pitching Her Own Talk Show
Variety reports that Hudson’s show would be the new flagship daytime talk show for Warner Bros. TV after DeGeneres ends the run of her own show. The Ellen DeGeneres Show executive producers Andy Lassner and Mary Connelly were reportedly showrunners for Hudson’s test show, which was shot on DeGeneres’ stage.
The outlet also reports that meetings are taking place this week about the show, and things are apparently looking up. Deadline reports that the show is being pitched for a Fall 2022 premiere, adding that Hudson’s show could end up airing back-to-back with The Kelly Clarkson Show, which is taking over DeGeneres’ time slot.
Unfortunately, hosting a TV show won’t help Hudson get to that coveted EGOT status. She already has an Emmy for her work as an executive producer on Baba Yaga. She’ll need a Tony to complete things.

Could Hudson Be Back-to-Back with Kelly Clarkson?
How cool would it be to see two famous American Idol alums hosting their own talk shows every afternoon? Clarkson was the winner of the show’s first season, and Hudson was a fan favorite contestant in Season 3.
The two singers have also both served as coaches on The Voice. Clarkson has been on the American version of the show since Season 14. Hudson coached in Season 13 and Season 15, and she’s also been on the U.K. version of the series three times.
Jennifer Hudson recently starred as music legend Aretha Franklin in the film Respect. Her last original studio album was in 2014, but she sang a number of Franklin’s most iconic songs on the biopic’s soundtrack.
