James Charles Throws Major SHADE at Jeffree Star — New Makeup Drama Brewing!?

Reading Time: 2 minutes
Did beauty YouTuber James Charles just shade fellow gurus Jeffree Star and Jaclyn Hill in a new interview? It certainly sounds like it! Get Ready to sip some tea.
James, who was one of Google’s most-searched people last year, spoke with WWD about making his VidCon debut later this year. He also spoke about his plans for a makeup line, and seemed to throw shade at fellow influencers-turned-entrepreneurs.
James Charles Shades Jeffree Star And Jaclyn Hill?
James said he’s in he “planning stages” of his beauty line, and explained how he wants to set himself apart.
“Let’s be real: it’s very saturated right now and the last thing I want to do is slap my name on a highlighter or liquid lipstick and call it a day. I’ve talked for a while about not wanting to do a beauty line, but after releasing my [Morphe] palette, I changed my mind because I fell in love with the product development process. My biggest focus in creating my line is innovation and creating products that the beauty market hasn’t seen yet.”
That first comment certainly sounds like it might be referring to fellow YouTubers who have released their own makeup. Two of the most famous examples are Jeffree Star and Jaclyn Hill. Both of their lines have had some sort of controversy attached to them. Jeffree started with lipsticks and Jaclyn just came out with her own highlighters, shade? We say yes.
5 CELEBRITIES THAT WOULD MAKE THE PERFECT GAY ‘BACHELOR’ OR ‘BACHELORETTE’
Some people found hair-like fibers in their Jeffree Star palettes last year, and Jaclyn Hill’s lipsticks were thought to be unsanitary by some consumers. Is James suggesting that his products will be better because he’s taking his time with it?
When Is James’ Competition Series Starting?
Developing a makeup line isn’t the only thing James is doing to branch out. Last year, he announced that he would be hosting a YouTube talent competition show for influencers.
BEAUTY GURU JAMES CHARLES IS LOOKING FOR THE NEXT INTERNET STAR
James told WWD that filming for the show has wrapped, and that 180 people worked on it.
“The show is our baby that we are giving birth to in a few months hopefully. I love high production, I love going above and beyond for our videos. This is my opportunity to take it to the next level and that’s definitely what we did.”
He said in his announcement video that we can expect to see the show in spring 2020. No word on if throwing internet shade will be one of the challenges.
