Nick Cannon Thinks Black Lives Matter Is Simple To Understand

The Masked Singer host explained that the movement is meant to bring people together. But, so many people are divided because they continue to say that “all lives matter.” Cannon explained that this movement was not created to say that only black lives matter. “We’re just saying black lives matter too.” He said that it is simple and people that do not support the movement make it more complicated than it has to be. This movement was first introduced in 2013 after the acquittal of young black man Trayvon Martin’s murderer, George Zimmerman. It has since turned into a global widespread movement that calls for change and an end to systemic racism.

Cannon also mentions a conversation he had with former America’s Got Talent judge Howard Stern. He said that he explained the meaning of the phrase to him and had to “explain it in caucasian.” He did this by using an analogy. “When y’all say ‘save the whales’ that don’t mean f*ck all the other fish in the ocean,” he said. He continues “It just means the whales need saving, they’re endangered.”

BLM Protests Are Happening Worldwide

Recently, the Black Lives Matter movement has continued to protest after the death of black man George Floyd at the hands of white officer Derek Chauvin. This murder has caused worldwide outrage and a need to bring about actual change in society, starting with police forces. People carry signs during these protests that say “Black Lives Matter.” Cannon himself has participated in these protests in Minnesota, where the murder took place. In recent days, Cannon has been on the frontlines of protests wearing a shirt that says “Please, I can’t breathe.”

These were the last words Floyd uttered before he died with Chauvin’s knee on his neck for nine minutes face down on the ground. These also happened to be the same words that Eric Garner said before police officers put him in a chokehold and killed him in 2014. It is very clear that even then, there were issues of police brutality going on against members of the black community. And now, nearly six years later, they are faced with the same sort of issues that show that racism is still present in society.

Nick Posted An Emotional Tribute To The Black Community

Cannon also posted a video on his Instagram detailing all of the violence that has occurred against black people at the hands of police. He speaks in the video about how media suffocates people into silence. At one point Cannon is laying on the ground with a knee on his neck, mirroring the image of Chauvin murdering Floyd in the now viral video of his death.
