Girl Named Tom has landed on to daytime television for the first time since winning season 21 of The Voice. The Ohio natives sat down with Ellen Degeneres to share their plans for the future of their group, following their historic win.
The sibling trio was seen in good spirits on Wednesday’s episode. Caleb, Joshua, and Bekah Liechty are humbled to have received America’s vote after weeks on The Voice competition. The three siblings took to social media after their win to share that they would be returning to Ohio due to their father’s ongoing health issues. The siblings were back in their hometown of Pettisville, Ohio within 24 hours.
“Not even 24 hours after we won The Voice on that stage, we got to be in the hospital room with our dad– all of our family together and that was very surreal just to share that moment with them,” Bekah Leitchy said.
The siblings shared that their father was in the hospital the night of the finale. He told them that he woke up the entire hospital from his cheering. Girl Named Tom has not provided an update on their father’s health at this time.
This group was Kelly Clarkson’s fourth win on the singing series. They were aired as the first audition of the season and became the frontrunner early on in the competition. Once the live shows came around, Girl Named Tom’s music was steadily charting on the iTunes top 100. They were the first act in 21 seasons to have four songs on the iTunes top 10 chart at the same time.
Girl Named Tom Proves That People Can Follow Their Dreams, No Matter Where They’re From
This sibling group had been together for only three years before auditioning for the popular singing series. Even though they hadn’t always sang as a group, they’ve attributed their success to growing up in a musical setting.
“Our dad would come in [to their room], our mom would harmonize with him so we’ve been surrounded with music our whole lives but we didn’t sing together until like three years ago,” Bekah said.
Before going on to The Voice all three siblings were on the road to becoming doctors. Caleb and Joshua have degrees in biochemistry from Goshen College and Bekah was set to follow their path. As of now, that career is on the backburner for these siblings as they begin to launch their music career. While on the show, they made sure to mention that they currently have an album in the works.
“We have this platform now that we never could’ve dreamed of and we’ve been writing during COVID-19 in our little house on South Bend and we’ve got some great music. We can’t wait to share it,” Caleb said. “It’ll be out next year, we’ll hopefully tour the country. We’ve got big dreams.”
