FOX Launches Guessing Game Similar to ‘The Masked Singer’ with Celebrity Relatives

This winter season, FOX is launching a brand new guessing game-show. In the spirit of The Masked Singer, FOX’s newest guessing game features celebrity relatives, in a singing competition. We Are Family premieres on Wednesday, January 3, at 9 p.m. ET, following I Can See Your Voice.
What is We Are Family?
This week, FOX is premiering their newest guessing game show, We Are Family. According to the network’s press release, We Are Family is “[an] all-new music-centric guessing game show showcasing non-famous relatives of celebrities performing amazing solo performances and duets with their hidden famous family member.”
The show takes place in a studio, featuring a 100 contestant audience. Each audience member is competing for up to $150,000 for guessing the celebrity relative correct. According to FOX, fans should expect to see musicians, actors, pro athletes and more on We Are Family Season 1.
The host of the new series is Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actor, comedian, and producer Anthony Anderson and his mother, Doris Bowman, also known as Mama Doris. This show comes from executive producer Jamie Foxx. Originally, Foxx was set to host the series, ahead of his undisclosed medical condition.
“I jumped at the opportunity to host We Are Family and can’t wait for you to see all the celebrities, their relatives and the many surprises we have in store this season – and with my mama by my side, you never know what’s going to happen,” said Anderson in a statement.
Is Show Competing with Claim to Fame?
It’s no surprise that FOX is launching this series, since a similar type of show has recently done well in ratings. For those who may not know, ABC has a very similar, reality series titled Claim to Fame. This series, hosted by Kevin and Frankie Jonas features 12 people, who are on the fringe of celebrity, but out of the spotlight. Within the season, 12 celebrity relatives to step out of their relatives shadow, and live together under one roof. Throughout the weeks, contestants conceal their identity, in a quest for their own fame. The final relative standing will win the coveted $100,000 prize and stake their own “Claim to Fame.”
Claim to Fame‘s inaugural season on ABC averaged a 0.36 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.82 million viewers. It’s second season averaged 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.066 million viewers. The second season had an effect similar to The Masked Singer, where tons of fans took to went social media with their guesses. Even our Masked Singer detective was guessing along with the past season of Claim to Fame.
At this time it’s hard to know exactly how different these two shows will be from one another. We Are Family airs for the first time on FOX on January 3, 2024.
