‘The Four’ Adds A Brand New Twist to Comeback Week
Reading Time: 2 minutes
One of the highlight’s of The Four’s first season was “Comeback Week”. Four artists who had held a seat earlier in the season were brought back to see if they could earn themselves a second chance. Last week we learned this challenge would be brought back for Season 2, but now we’ve learned it will entail a new twist…
During The Four Comeback Week in Season 1, viewers were invited to use #TheFourComeback hashtag to tweet out which former member of The Four they wanted to see back for another shot. Those selected competed against each other one-on-one, with the winner of each battle challenging an incumbent seat-holder for their spot. The format for voting this season is similar, but instead of options being limited to people who held seats, anyone who participated in a battle will be eligible.
Personally, I welcome this rule change. All those who are eligible will still have already been approved by the judges, but this gives the audience more choices. The at-home viewers don’t get to choose who wins the battles, so it’s very possible that the results of some of them would be different if they had a say.
The Four Comeback Favors Rebecca Black
Another thing worth noting is that the contestant who has received the most buzz (and YouTube views) so far this season is the already famous Rebecca Black. Ms. Black who has by far the most followers on social media made it to the challenge stage but did not end up winning a seat. It seems plausible that this rule change could be an attempt to boost viewership and social media activity surrounding the show, since Rebecca clearly has a passionate fanbase who I’m sure would love to see her return. I would not be surprised at all if she ends up as one of the The Four comeback contestants.
