The 2024 Oscar nominations were announced on Tuesday, and there were quite a few snubs among the nominees. That includes Fantasia Barrino, who failed to earn a nomination for her performance in The Color Purple.

Fantasia Barrino Snubbed in 2024 Oscar Nominations

The Color Purple, which is based on the stage musical of the same name (which in turn was inspired by the 1982 novel and 1985 film), came out in theaters on Christmas. It stars American Idol Season 3 winner Fantasia Barrino as Celie.

Barrino earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. However, she was not included among the nominees at this year’s Academy Awards. Her co-star Danielle Brooks (who played Sofia) earned the movie’s sole nomination, in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Barrino isn’t alone, in that there were quite a few other notable acting snubs on the list, as pointed out by People. They include Leonardo DiCaprio for Killers of the Flower Moon, Margot Robbie for Barbie, and the cast of May December. Barrino’s Color Purple co-star Taraji P. Henson also was not nominated.
