Fans Criticize Governors Ball for Not Rescheduling
On Wednesday, the Governors Ball posted on Instagram that they were “closely monitoring the air quality with weather experts and are in close contact with city officials.” The message went on to say that “the health and safety of New Yorkers is our top priority.”
The statement continued by saying that the festival was still scheduled to go on as planned, adding, “We are hopeful that conditions will improve in the coming days and are looking forward to a great weekend!”
Some users responded to this post with criticism, arguing that the festival should be rescheduled to protect the health of attendees. As user @andi.tyler wrote, “Please reschedule no one wants to be breathing this air for 3 days especially not performers.”
“You need to reschedule you’re putting our lives at stake when we aren’t supposed to be outside,” wrote @solo.flowspamz, while @shanadafuture remarked, “I can smell the class action lawsuit now if they don’t cancel.”

Will the Festival’s Performers Cancel?
At least one Instagram user expressed surprise that the festival’s scheduled performers hadn’t canceled their appearances due to air quality concerns. The event is set to feature performances from such artists as Lizzo, Odesza, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Nas X, HAIM, Diplo, Lil Baby, Kim Petras, Ice Spice, and many more.
As user @thegraceofganja wrote on Instagram, “I find it hard to believe that artists are agreeing to perform as scheduled. They have other shows/performances that this one now puts at risk.”
The outdoor music festival is currently scheduled to run from Friday, June 9, to Sunday, June 11, at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens.
