RuPaul is back at it again with another drag-filled series, Queen of the Universe. Differing from RuPaul’s Drag Race, this series gathers drag queens from around the world to take center stage in a live singing competition. This highly anticipated series executive produced by MaMa Ru begins streaming on Paramount + on December 2.
Although lip syncing is one of the most-loved challenges in the RuPaul’s Drag Race competition, this series is all about the queens real singing talent.
These drag queens will be performing for RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars winner Trixie Mattel, regular RuPaul’s Drag Race Judges Vanessa Williams and Michelle Visage, and British singer-songwriter and actress Leona Lewis. While Graham Norton will host. The first preview showed off some stunning outfits, so I’d say these queens will also be judged on their drag looks as a whole.
The first season of this series will feature 14 drag queens battling it out for the prize of $250,000. The queens set to perform are Ada Vox, Rani Ko-he-nur, Aria B Cassadine, Matante Alex, Jujubee, Regina Voce, La Voix, Novaczar, Gingzilla, WooWu, Leona Winter, Betty Bitschlap, Chy’enne Valentino, and Grag Queen.
The casting for this show began in early May and filming took place in late September to the beginning of October. This series was filmed in front of a live audience at London’s Excel Centre.
One familiar name in this singing competition is Ada Vox. Ada has been on American Idol twice. In season 12, Ada Vox auditioned under their birth name, Adam Sanders. They made it to the Top 28 in the Hollywood round before facing elimination. In season 16, Ada returned to the American Idol auditions once again, this time in drag.
They made it to the Top 10 before facing elimination. They were the third drag queen to compete in the series after Amnesia Sparkles and JDA. This drag queen was also the first to advance to the Semifinals and the Finals. Ada did so well on American Idol I cannot wait to see how they do on Queen of the Universe. It’s clear that they are a seasoned singer based off their other talent show success.
Be sure to check out the new show on Paramount+ on December 2.
