On Monday night, Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro premieres on ABC. The spin-off series sees 12 talented dancers competing to become a new pro on Season 35 of DWTS, premiering this fall. Here’s everything you need to know about the show before it kicks off.
Everything to Know About DWTS: The Next Pro
DWTS: The Next Pro is hosted by Season 34 Mirrorball champion Robert Irwin and features Shirley and Mark Ballas as judges. Familiar faces from DWTS — including Derek Hough, Britt Stewart, Jenna Johnson, and Brandon Armstrong — will also appear as guest judges and mentors during the season.
The show filmed earlier this year in Australia, with 12 dancers competing while living together in a house. The contestants have prior experience dancing in ballroom competitions, performing as backup dancers, and even competing on shows such as So You Think You Can Dance and America’s Got Talent.
Each episode of the season will test the competing dancers on a different skill, including technique, storytelling, and group work. Contestants will be eliminated from the competition as the show goes on, until one dancer is named the winner and added to the Season 35 pro roster.
“You don’t always get to see what the pros go through on the creative side,” Mark Ballas said of the new series. “This show is all focused on that. The show did an amazing job of creating these challenges and obstacles that they would face as a pro on Dancing with the Stars.”
