In the rap music arena, Chance The Rapper is no unfamiliar name. With his charisma and swag onstage, The Voice fans are definitely excited to know what he can offer to the table. Here’s everything we know about “Acid Rap“ hitmaker.
Chance The Rapper is a Grammy-Winning Rap Superstar
With the release of “10 Day” in 2012, Chancellor Jonathan Bennett took a risk and kicked off his musical career. In 2013, he dropped the mixtape that would amazingly let him get known in the mainstream, “Acid Rap.” From this, Chance The Rapper gradually rose to fame.
Three years later, he put out “Coloring Book.” At the time, it’s no secret that it was one of the strongest rap albums of the year. The mixtape is an uplifting combination of spiritual and electric, one that even a non-religious person can enjoyably listen to. Peaking at number eight on the Billboard 200, the rap musician consequently sealed three Grammy Awards including Best Rap Album.
“This is for every indie artist!” he said when he received the award.
Chance The Rapper then released his debut studio album “The Big Day” in July 2019. This collection reached number two on the US Billboard 200, thus his highest charting entry rate until present.
Overall, Chance the Rapper is a recipient of multiple artistic awards. These include three Grammy Awards, three BET Awards, two BET Hip Hop Awards, two iHeartRadio Music Awards and a Soul Train Music Award.
He Joins The Voice season 23 as a New Coach
As The Voice returns to television, it introduces fans to Chance The Rapper as one of the newbie coaches for season 23. NBC emphasized that his sense of community and social activism are the “cornerstone of his artistry.” This claim springs from the fact that the rapper has been distributing music freely for years, not being signed to a major label.
“I’m excited to help other artists get to the next level and make the most of this life-changing experience,” he said. “Get ready for #teamchance.”
Thrilled to join the series, Chance is clearly aiming for his first ever win this season. Yet, before he could secure a trophy for his team, he has to battle against The Voice coach veterans Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson. Adding to his opponents is former One Direction band member Niall Horan.
The Voice season 23 will premiere on Monday, March 6, at 1 p.m. ET on NBC.
