Elon Musk has confirmed reports that he and his former partner Grimes have a third child together. News of the child’s existence broke in a review of Walter Isaacson’s upcoming biography about Musk. The pair reportedly welcomed a boy, named Tau Techno Mechanicus, last year.
Grimes, Elon Musk Have a Third Child Together
In a book review for the New York Times, writer Jennifer Szalai describes Grimes as “the mother of three of Musk’s children,” adding that “the existence of the third, Techno Mechanicus, nicknamed Tau, has been kept private until now.”
On Saturday, the X (formerly Twitter) account Pop Base shared the reported name. Musk replied to the post, writing that the child’s name is “Tau Techno Mechanicus.” He added, “Circumference/Diameter,” referring to the inspiration for the name “Tau.”
According to a report from CBS, Grimes “had a new baby boy last year.” The pair also shares a 3-year-old son named X Æ A-12, and a 1-year-old daughter named Exa Dark Sideræl. In an interview last year, Grimes described her relationship with Musk as “very fluid.”
It was also recently revealed that Musk is the father of twins Strider and Azure with Shivon Zilis, an executive at his company Neuralink. According to Isaacson’s biography, Musk was a sperm donor for Zilis. He apparently didn’t tell Grimes about the twins.

Grimes Begged Musk to ‘Let Me See My Son’
Last week, Grimes responded to a post on X from Musk biographer Walter Isaacson asking Musk to “let me see my son.” She also addressed Musk’s twins with Shivon Zilis, writing that the situation was “ripping my family apart.”
“Tell Shivon to unblock me and tell Elon to let me see my son or plz respond to my lawyer,” Grimes wrote in the now-deleted post. “I have never even been allowed to see a photo of these children until this moment, despite the situation utterly ripping my family apart.”
In another post on Sunday, Grimes wrote that she and Zilis spoke, and she’s “excited to become friends and have the kids grow up together.” She also apologized for her response to Isaacson, calling it “a very gut level reaction to a thing that has been very hard for me,” adding, “Communication about the twins wasn’t handled super well in the past, but I now totally understand what happened and totally forgive the situation.”
Grimes finished her post by telling fans, “I wish I could show u how cute little Techno is.” However, she added that her priority is “keeping my babies out of the public eye.”
