Dancing With the Stars returned to Disney+ for their highly anticipated Halloween Night. Each pair dressed up as their favorite spooky characters for the holiday themed night. The spooky night ended with quite the shocking elimination.

Some Fan Favorites Were Unable to Perform This Week

On Friday, October 28, it was announced that fan favorite Val Chmerkovskiy would not appear on this episode of DWTS, due to a positive COVID-19 test. Alan Bersten danced in place of Val with his partner Gabby Windey this week. Gabby and Alan earned a score of 38 out of 40 points.

Many thought Charli D’Amelio would end up dancing with a different partner tonight as well. Within her before-dance footage, her and Mark Ballas talk about how he was struggling with a flare up in his lower back. Even though Charli rehearsed with Pasha Pashkov, Mark was luckily able to perform with his partner on the big night. Their beautiful Argentine Tango earned 39 out of 40 points.

Daniel Durant and partner Britt Stewart unfortunately were apart of the pairs struggling this week. The CODA star was sick for a portion of the week, so he was unable to really rehearse this week’s dance, as well as his team dance. Daniel and Britt performed an energetic Paso Doble, which earned them 34 out of 40 points.

Above all, Shangela and Gleb Savchenko performed my favorite dance of the night. The two truly understood the assignment, since their makeup and costuming was totally on point. Not only was their look good, their dance and song choice matched the night’s theme and dance style very well. Their insane dance earned a perfect score.

Celebrities Slay in Team Dances

Ahead of the team dance competition, the show explained that teams were picked by the celebrities at the bottom of the leaderboard. Vinny Guadagnino formed Team Wicked, while Trevor Donovan formed Team Scream. Other members of Team Wicked were Koko Iwasaki; Shangela and Gleb Savchenko; Heidi D’Amelio and Artem Chigvintsev; Jordin Sparks and Brandon Armstrong and Gabby Windey and Alan Bersten. On the flipside, other members of Team Scream were Emma Slater; Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas; Wayne Brady and Witney Carson, and lastly Daniel Durant and Britt Stewart.

The ultimate showdown between the teams began with Team Wicked’s dance to “The Witches Are Back,” from Hocus Pocus. This energetic dance featured notes of both Tango and Jive styles, the judges gave the group 33 out of 40 points.

Up next came Team Scream, who danced to “Heads Will Roll” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Each part of this dance was absolutely flawless, not a single pair missed a step. Since this group featured various high scoring groups, it’s no surprise that they earned a 39 out of 40 points.

Jordin Sparks Gets Eliminated Over Heidi D’Amelio

At the end of the night, it was revealed that Heidi D’Amelio and Artem Chigvintsev and Jordin Sparks and Brandon Armstrong ended up in the bottom two of the night. This is Jordin and Brandon’s first time in the bottom two this season, but it’s not Heidi and Artems.

Both couples have clearly improved since their beginning on the series, but the judges decided to send Jordin and Brandon home. This was truly an awkward moment since Heidi and Artem didn’t even crack a smile, yet Jordin and Brandon were smiling and hugging, even in the sad moment.

Dancing With the Stars returns to Disney+ on November 7 for 90’s Night. The upcoming episode will feature relay dances. For those who may not know, relay dances splits the remaining groups once again. The pairs will battle head to head using styles they’ve previously danced. Relay winners will earn more points toward their final score.
