Duo Mico Flies High Above the Stage in Their Aerial Strap ‘AGT’ Audition
Reading Time: 3 minutes
Aerial act Duo Mico has officially secured America’s Got Talent‘s final early release spot for this upcoming week. This aerial duo brings something shockingly different to the stage.
Within the early release, the duo walks on stage and introduces themselves as Caroline Rinny and Maxime (Max) Piché Luneau. They are from Boston, Massachusetts, and Montreal, Canada, respectively. Before going on about their act, Caroline reminded the judges that she had been on the show in season 12 as (her husband) Jonathan Rinny‘s assistant. Now, they’ve totally swapped places, with Jonathan controlling the winch offstage.
Caroline wanted to audition for AGT to prove that she’s more than just an assistant. In doing so, Caroline and Max have spent a year creating their own original aerial sequences. They think their aerial act is different than what the AGT stage has seen to this point. Duo Mico’s dream is to open a show and promote their art to the world.
Caroline and Max began their routine on different sides of the stage, but quickly came together up in the air. They both swung by one arm in the air, performed, various flips and turns. At the end of the performance, the Caroline climbs up to the top of the straps and holds herself, Max is brought into the air by the bottom of the straps. All at once, Caroline death dropped into Max’s arms. The judges were jaw dropped throughout the performance.
The video cuts off before the judges could discuss the routine, but it seems like they were invested since the moment Caroline and Max hit the stage. Tune into America’s Got Talent on Tuesday night to see what the judges think of Duo Mico.
How Was Duo Mico Created?
This aerial duo has tons of experience individually, so it’s no surprise they were placed together. Ahead of Duo Mico, Max had graduated from École Nationale de Cirque and went on to perform in Montreal, Saudi Arabia, and Japan. On the other hand, Caroline joined the circus by accident. Her husband, Jonathan Rinny was the one that sparked her interest in the art. Throughout college, she would teach aerial hoop to escape daily stresses. Soon after graduating with a degree in business, she decided to join the circus full time.
Duo Mico began in 2019 after a straps duet casting call by Cirque du Soleil in Hangzhou, China. Max was already apart of the project when Caroline was asked to audition. Even though Caroline had never done aerial straps, she fit the demographic they were looking to cast. After three months as a group, Caroline and Max debuted their act in X, the Land of Fantasy.
After performing for a year, Duo Mico was separated due to the coronavirus pandemic. When Max returned to China in 2021, the duo worked harder than ever on their partnership and original routines. They debuted as Duo Mico in 2021 on China’s Got Talent, where they won the coveted Golden Buzzer. Since this appearance they have been in the Festival Internacional del Circ in Spain. According to their website, they have several upcoming festivals this year. We can’t wait to see what they bring to the America’s Got Talent stage this season.
