America’s Got Talent fans might remember the dog act Sara and Hero from Season 12 of the show. Sadly, Hero’s trainer Sara Carson shared that he passed away this week at the age of 12, after suffering from health issues over the past few years.

AGT Dog Hero from Sara and Hero Has Passed Away

On Monday, Carson posted a photo on Instagram showing her hand holding Hero’s paw. She explained in the caption that Hero had passed away, sharing that he was diagnosed with Valley Fever and a heart condition a few years ago.

Although Hero was apparently “able to control his heart condition very well,” he recently experienced kidney failure. Tumors were found on Hero’s spleen, which also happened to his brother who passed away last year.

“There will never be another dog like Hero,” Carson wrote in the post. “He touched the lives of millions of people. He helped me through some of the darkest times in my life. I owe everything I have today to this dog.”

Instagram commenters shared their condolences on the post, with fellow AGT star Drew Lynch writing, “Rest in peace, Hero. You two changed lives.” Preacher Lawson wrote, “Dang it. I’m so sorry. Sending you love.” Darci Lynne added, “My goodness. He was, and will always be cherished. I love you Sara, you are in my prayers.”

The Duo Competed in Season 12

Sara and Hero auditioned for Season 12 of AGT. They were famously saved from elimination by Simon Cowell, who convinced Howie Mandel to change his vote from no to yes in order to send them through to the next round.

The duo ended up making it all the way to the Finals, finishing the competition in fifth place. Some of their performances during the season also featured other dogs named Loki and Marvel.

Sara and Hero returned to the AGT stage for the spin-off show The Champions in 2019. Their first performance received a standing ovation from the judging panel, but they didn’t earn enough votes to move on.
