Dancing with the Stars judge Derek Hough recently teased the celebrity cast for Season 35 of the show, premiering this fall on ABC and Disney+. Hough said he’s “excited” about the new crop of stars entering the ballroom this year.
Derek Hough Teases DWTS Season 35 Cast
“We have a really good cast,” Derek Hough said in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “There are some people that I know are waiting in the wings. I’ve been told some of the people that are going to be on the next season. It’s going to be a great one.”
As of this writing, only four celebrities have officially been announced as competing on Season 35 of the show — Love Island star Maura Higgins, Summer House cast member Ciara Miller, Savannah Bananas second baseman Jackson Olson, and Jimmy Kimmel Live sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez.
“We’re having this momentum from the past two seasons,” Hough said of DWTS. “The celebrities are so excited to be on the show, to dance, to compete, to really get the full experience, and that dynamic of a celebrity who is wanting [to win] and really embracing it, that’s what creates great seasons.”
The full celebrity cast for Season 35, along with their professional partners, will be revealed September 2 on Good Morning America. One of this season’s pros will be chosen by the spin-off series The Next Pro, which premieres on ABC July 13.

Hough Reflects on 20th Anniversary Routine
During Season 34 of DWTS, Hough put together an opening number celebrating the show’s 20th anniversary. The routine featured the return of pros from the show’s first season: Edyta Sliwinska, Ashly DelGrosso, Louis van Amstel, Jonathan Roberts, Charlotte Jorgensen, and Alec Mazo.
“It was really important to [embody] this idea of passing the torch from the pros that really began this all to this new cast of dancers,” Hough told The Hollywood Reporter of the performance, which also featured an appearance by former host Tom Bergeron and a tribute to late judge Len Goodman.
