Derek, who is a former pro and current judge on DWTS, told Us Weekly in a new interview that Banks was “unbelievably gracious” about Julianne taking over as co-host alongside Alfonso Ribeiro. He added, “She just sent Julianne the most beautiful message. I’m just really grateful to her for her grace.”
When asked if he was surprised by Banks’ decision to leave, Derek said he wasn’t. He explained, “She’s got a lot on her plate and a lot of things happening in her future. She’s one person that you know will always work and will always be an entrepreneur and always create opportunities. And she’s a powerhouse.”
Derek said he thinks Julianne is “the right choice” to co-host the show, pointing out that they’ve hosted Disney specials together. He also said Julianne is “part of the family” at DWTS, having previously competed as a pro dancer.

Hough Confirms Season 32 Will Have Three Judges
It’s already been confirmed that Derek will be returning to DWTS as a judge for Season 32, alongside Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli. In this new interview, Derek seemed to confirm that the show won’t be hiring a fourth judge to replace Len Goodman.
“I think this is gonna be it,” Derek said of Season 32’s judging panel, adding that he thinks “three is the right amount.” He said the number “also allows space for guest judges.”
A release date has not yet been announced for the new season, but it’s expected to premiere in the fall on Disney+. We also won’t find out which celebrities are joining the cast until much closer to the premiere.
