Derek Hough, Julianne Hough to Star in “Step Into the Movies” Special

The biggest names in professional dance, siblings Derek Hough and Julianne Hough are teaming up for a one hour special. Within the one hour special, they will be recreating legendary cinematic performances. Their one hour special will premiere before the 94th Oscar Award Ceremony.
The upcoming special is called Step Into… The Movies with Derek and Julianne Hough. It seems like this special will be similar to other ABC specials like The Queen Family Singalong. Within the special, award-winning choreographers and professional dancers will recreate the most legendary cinematic performances.
Derek and Julianne Hough Step Into Iconic Movies in TV Special
The Hough siblings share that they’re bringing the idea of stepping into their favorite movies to life. They are recreating some of their favorite cinematic performances.
“There is no one better than Derek and Julianne to revisit iconic movie moments through music and dance,” said Rob Mills, executive vice president, Unscripted and Alternative Entertainment, Walt Disney Television. “Their talent is insurmountable and will entertain audiences at home through their captivating visual performances. And the celebrity guests and surprises they have in store are sure to make it an unforgettable night.”
We’ve seen the Hough’s take on roles in the past, but nothing like this. While the Houghs are always included in Disney’s hour long specials, they aren’t typically the hosts. We’ve seen them dance to all types of music, but it’ll be a real treat to see iconic films reimagined through their award-winning Choreography.
ABC Has Not Revealed Other Cast Members
The network has announced that a star-studded cast of singers, dancers, actors, and film legends will accompany the Houghs in the special. At this time, there has been no cast announcement. Dances within the special are a reimagination through a modern lens. It will feature performances inspired by iconic films. ABC shares that included films are Singin’ in the Rain, Moulin Rouge, Beauty and the Beast, Chicago, Dirty Dancing, Saturday Night Fever, and La La Land.
I’m excited to see who ABC will choose to accompany the Hough’s in this special. While the obvious choice would include celebrities from the listed films, I think they have more up their sleeve than that. I expect this special to be similar to others in the aspect that guests will also love the films, but… I don’t think anyone will complain if ABC throws Ryan Gosling or Emma Stone into the mix for the La La Land number.
Step Into… The Movies with Derek and Julianne Hough premieres on ABC on March 20 at 10/9c.
