Derek Hough, Hayley Erbert Gush Over Their Romantic, Intimate Engagement

Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert have finally revealed each detail of their May 17 engagement. The couple snuggled close to discuss each detail of their special day in a lengthy YouTube video.
On June 2, it was revealed that Derek Hough officially popped the question to his girlfriend of seven years, Hayley Erbert. The professional dancer took to social media a few days after the announcement to share the lead up to their special moment. Within the short video, he explained that Erbert agreed to join him on a helicopter ride, thinking it was an event for his birthday. Instead, he was getting her out of their home in preparation for the big question.

If you thought their romantic helicopter ride was cute, wait until you see this video. In the beginning, Hough explains that he planned their engagement in Tulum, but it didn’t feel right. Then, he considered asking at the Yosemite, but it didn’t line up the way he wanted. In the end, he decided their most special place is their home. Erbert chimed in, stating that their home is “where we built our life together.”
Reportedly, the first time the couple went to the Yosemite they were amazed by their hike. Hough shared that on the hike was one of the first times he thought he might end up with Erbert. Flying above it in a helicopter, gave it a whole new meaning for the couple. Hough shared that he was internally freaking out throughout the helicopter ride, while Erbert “genuinely had no idea.”
“I had this inkling of a feeling while we were on top of a mountain I was like ‘you know he could do it right now'” Erbert said. “Then he didn’t so I was like oh okay it’ll happen another time, I don’t know.”
Since Hough stole Erbert’s phone and deleted her security camera apps, the first thing she did when she found it was redownload all of them. As they got closer to their home, Hough knew she had no idea what was happening since she asked to order food. At this point, the nerves kicked in for Hough and he had cold sweats.
When they walked in the door, Hough had a special playlist begin. Since Erbert was so excited, she explained that she doesn’t remember anything they said, she just remembers crying and hugging. They both shared that their moment was so special because they had an unspoken desire to wed. Erbert finished out the video by explaining that she genuinely had no idea that he was going to propose.
