Chaka Khan & Idina Menzel Sing THIS For International Women’s Day

In honor of International Women’s Day, music legend Chaka Khan teamed up with Broadway icon Idina Menzel for a cover of Chaka’s hit “I’m Every Woman.”


According to Entertainment Weekly, the new release of the song is part of CARE’s #ImEveryWoman campaign. The organization also released an accompanying music video for the duet.

The song’s video features women from around the world, in various careers and at different ages. Celebrities and activists such as Iman, Bellamy Young, and Laverne Cox also appear in the clip.

“I am honored to lend my voice to celebrate and inspire women on this International Women’s Day,” Chaka Khan said in a statement, according to EW. “I hope our rendition of ‘I’m Every Woman’ sheds light on the incredible strength of empowered women — women who are changing the world by leading their communities.”

The singer added that they specifically wanted to honor the “female heroes who have been at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19 this past year.”

Idina, meanwhile, said she was “so thrilled to be a part of this hopeful celebration of strength for International Women’s Day,” calling their duet a “beautiful recognition of the power in every woman.”

Idina Menzel Reacts To Working With Chaka Khan

Idina Menzel posted on Instagram that working with Chaka Khan was “one of those pinch yourself moments for me.” She added that she’s been a fan of Chaka her whole life, and said she was “so friggin honored and elated.”

Meanwhile, Chaka posted about the duet on her own account, calling Idina “my incredibly talented friend.” She encouraged fans to support the work done by CARE for International Women’s Day.

As part of the #ImEveryWoman campaign, CARE is hosting a Virtual Speakers series this month, featuring activists and female executives. You can also support the campaign by sending a CARE package to support women and girls.
