‘Britain’s Got Talent’ Will Now Broadcast The Judge’s Off-Air Comments

ITV

Reading Time: 2 minutes

When you are taping a live show like Britain’s Got Talent, you usually use a clip-on lavalier mic and unless you go to the bathroom or something, the mic is live the whole time. That way the sound guys don’t have to waste time turning them off and on. That means that the sound engineers hear all of the judge’s bitchy comments and gossip. Now we will as well.

They are going to do a segment on ITV2’s Britain’s Got More Talent in which they will play audio that is recorded from the judges when the cameras stop rolling but the mics are still hot. Producer Steven Mulhern explains,

“The judges forget they are filmed 24/7 when they are on set. So we have all the footage of their conversations where they are gossiping between auditions. We’re going to use it to play a game. For example, we’ll repeat things they’ve said about other people such as, ‘She’s not really that nice in person’ and ask which one said it and who it was about.  It’ll be like Russian Roulette, we’ll play it and see who they were talking about. It’s like they’ve never been on TV before, they know their microphone is on but they are still whispering.”

There is no way that won’t be entertaining. Simon and David Walliams gossiping about contestants like two old women knitting on a porch? Now THAT’s entertainment.
