Blake Shelton has opened up about his desire to cut back on drinking in the new year — or maybe stop altogether. The country singer has tried in the past, but it hasn’t stuck. This year, he’s going to try again to make it happen.
Blake Shelton Makes New Year’s Resolution to Stop Drinking
“I haven’t managed to stop drinking yet. That’s been, you know, even cutting back has been hard,” Shelton told Entertainment Tonight. “I mean, it’s a resolution though. And I’ll say it again right now — that’s my New Year’s resolution, is to either cut back or stop drinking altogether. Let’s just say I said it.”
It’s easy to see why the resolution would be complicated for Shelton, considering alcohol is part of his career. Not only does he own a Nashville bar called Ole Red, but he films his game show Barmageddon there. The singer also has a brand of vodka called Smithworks.
Before 2024 rolls around, Shelton will be performing at New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash. The special, airing December 31 on CBS, will also feature Morgan Wallen, Lainey Wilson, Carly Pearce, Kane Brown, and Trace Adkins.

Shelton also told Entertainment Tonight about a New Year’s Eve he spent with his former The Voice co-star Adam Levine. He said it was “the one and only time he ever came and stayed with me at my house in Oklahoma.”
“It was New Year’s Eve, like maybe the second or third season of The Voice,” Shelton recalled. “He came and stayed. The things that we did to him. Have you ever seen the movie Deliverance? You should watch it. Well, he hasn’t been back.”
Nowadays, Shelton said he and Stefani like to be in bed before midnight even hits on New Year’s Eve. Earlier this year, the couple celebrated two years of marriage.
