Benson Boone Performs Debut Single “Ghost Town” on ‘Ellen’

American Idol Season 19 alum Benson Boone performed his debut single “Ghost Town” on the Ellen DeGeneres show. The singer is famous for dropping out of the competition after his audition despite the fact that he was a fan favorite. Benson went on to sign a record deal with Warner Records and Dan Reynolds from Imagine Dragons.
“Ghost Town” was released in October of 2021 as the young singer’s debut single. Benson co-wrote the song that has his emotions on full display. The piano heavy ballad shows off Benson’s vocals that fans of Idol became familiar with when he sang “Punchline” by Aidan Martin. His latest songs have him questioning if he is the reason why his love is unhappy with herself. The lyrics are smart and somber.
The singer’s performance on Ellen shows him showcasing his piano skills before singing directly to the audience. His live performance proves that he would have been the one to beat during Season 19 of Idol.
Benson also released the video for “Ghost Town” in October 2021. The black and white video plays on the lyrics of the song and has Benson and his love interest as the only two characters in an abandoned city. The visual has over 15 million views on YouTube. “Ghost Town” also peaked at number 100 on the billboard charts. The single has over 20 million streams globally.

Before American Idol Benson was wildly popular on TikTok. The singer had over 1 million followers who would watch him be silly with his family as well as sing cover songs. After his Idol audition judge Katy Perry predicted that Benson would win the whole competition.
The choice to leave the show was Benson’s as he felt that Idol was not a right fit for what he wanted to do musically. It seems as though that decision is paying off. The 20 year old singer has already embarked on a European tour. He has played intimate shows in Belgium, Paris, Denmark, Finland, and Sweden.
Benson released a camp fire version of “Ghost Town” and he recently teased fans with his new single “Room For 2.” On his Instagram Benson described his upcoming single as his first love song.
