Battle Rounds Begin On ‘The Voice UK’
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Blind auditions ended last week and the teams are set. Now we go into the battle rounds section of the show where we have two contestants fight it out (vocally) to keep their place on the team. The singers went head-to-head to show their stuff and the results were pretty darn entertaining.
Chris James vs. Holly Ellison
These two sang one of my all-time favorite songs, I Would Do Anything For Love, But I Won’t Do That by Meatloaf. The challenge with singing Meatloaf is to get the vocal power without shouting. Chris did a fine job but Holly was really the stand out and Holly kept her.
Courtney O’Neill vs. Eliza Gutteridge
These ladies sang The Fight Song by Rachel Platten. This one was a little painful. A little like a couple of cats fighting in a bag. Tom chose Eliza and let Courtney go and even he had to admit that he had to look past this performance to make his decision.
Mark Asari vs. Loaded Sista
The duo of Loaded Sista took on Mark Asari with Don’t Let Go by En Vogue, which Loaded Sista killed. Mark was alright, but it seemed clear that the duo was going to win. But no. Will.i.Am picked Mark for reasons that make no sense at all.
Tai vs. Kade Smith
Tai and Kade sang the classic Stand By Me by Ben E. King. When you are taking on a classic like this, you had better bring it and they did, particularly Tai. Will chose her but then Olly stole Kade so everyone’s a winner.
Belle Voci vs Scarlett Quigley
They sang a song very close to my heart, Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. It was weird. Unsettlingly weird. Why the producers chose this song for these two singers is beyond me. Jennifer picked Belle even though the performance was weird because she believes she has more potential.
Lucy Milburn vs. Simon Davies
Lucy and Simon did Too Good At Goodbyes by Sam Smith, not an easy song to sing. Simon was a good singer but he makes weird faces, anyone else notice that? Tom picked Lucy because she’s amazing.
Rhianna Abrey vs. Donel Mangena
They did Rain by The Script and it was probably the best performance of the night. Both of these singers deserved to stay and that’s exactly what happened. Will chose Donel but Jennifer quickly swooped in and snatched Rhianna.
