Aretha Franklin’s Granddaughter Grace Franklin is Apart of ‘AGT All-Stars’ Group Detroit Youth Choir
While watching the second episode of America’s Got Talent All-Stars, talent show fans were quick to notice a familiar face, Grace Franklin. Franklin was originally seen on American Idol‘s season 20 premiere episode in March 2022.
Grace Franklin Made Her TV Debut on American Idol Season 20
On American Idol, Franklin took the stage in the same fashion as any other singer, sharing that she is 15 years old. Once asked about her musical journey, Franklin opened up, stating that Aretha Franklin is her grandmother. Before beginning the song, she shared that the majority of her childhood was spent travelling with her grandmother.
Ahead of her performance, Franklin clarified that she has a very different style from her grandmother. Then, she went on to perform Lauryn Hill’s version of “Killing Me Softly.” The singer was clearly nervous, since she sang the entire song with her eyes closed. Even though her audition wasn’t bad by any means, the judges weren’t very impressed. She hit all of the right notes, but the power was missing.
Later, the judges let her sing “Ain’t No Way” by her grandmother. Franklin had very controlled runs but ultimately didn’t make it through to the next round. The judges decided that she has the voice, but her age needs to catch up. With time and practice, she could soar on the series.
Grace Franklin is Apart of Detroit Youth Choir
It appears that Franklin took their advice seriously and is implementing it in her everyday life. As we know from American Idol, she’s from Detroit, Michigan. While on American Idol, we noticed that Franklin had “dyc” written in her Instagram bio.
Although she hasn’t really posted about the group on her Instagram feed, she could be seen in the back row of the group on the most recent episode of AGT All-Stars. We’re not sure how long Franklin has been in Detroit Youth Choir at this time.
Make sure to tune into the AGT All-Stars finale to see Detroit Youth Choir battle for redemption on the series. For those who may not know, the choir once again earned Terry Crews’ Golden Buzzer, becoming the first act ever that has received the Golden Buzzer from the same judge/host.
