Maddie Poppe Posts First Episode of New YouTube Series: “An American Idol Story”

Coming off her big win just a few weeks ago, Maddie Poppe is starting a new YouTube series! The series, called “An American Idol Story,” will follow her journey since winning the inaugural season of American Idol on ABC.

In the first episode, we get a view at what took place, and how Maddie was feeling, just 32 minutes after she was announced the American Idol winner. She stays true to what we know from the show, being incredibly humble and seeming genuinely shocked by the result. She is only 20 years old and comes from a tiny town in Iowa after all!
Throughout the episode, it’s clear that the reality hadn’t sunk in for her yet:
“This is insane! This is not real life.”
She also mentions that she was ready to give up music until her dad suggested auditioning for Idol.
“This last summer, I just was like, ‘I’m not gonna do music anymore.’ Then my dad called me and was like, ‘You should audition for American Idol.’ And I was like, ‘Sure, why not?'”
In one of the most endearing clips, the car that Maddie is in is approached by screaming fans. Maddie excitingly waves back at the fans and can’t believe this is happening. At the end, as she’s about to get on a plane to head to New York for her first media appearances as American Idol, she says:
“I’m not kidding you guys, I’ve always wanted to be sittin’ in a chair and…just getting to talk. I just think this is so cool, all of these cool things that I get to do. I’m so excited!”
