‘America’s Got Talent: The Champions’ is Still Monday Night’s Most-Watched Show
Reading Time: 2 minutes
America’s Got Talent has been TV’s biggest summer hit for several years now, and spin-off America’s Got Talent: The Champions has turned out to be a new wintertime favorite!
For the third week in a row, Champions got the highest Monday night rating, a 1.6. While that’s down two tenths from the first episode and one tenth from last week, the fact that it’s stayed around the same number all season – and a pretty high one for TV these days at that – is certainly nothing to sneeze at.
While Champions is doing well in the ratings and NBC is undoubtedly pleased with its performance in the coveted 18-49 demographic, it’s not quite blowing its competition out of the water. This week’s 1.6 rating did tie with its timeslot rival The Bachelor on ABC, and the premiere of Celebrity Big Brother on CBS didn’t come too far behind with a 1.4.
But do you know what area Champions IS obliterating every other Monday night primetime program in right now? Total viewership. Last night’s episode had 9.7 million viewers tuned in, while The Bachelor – in a distant second place – had 6 million, and Celebrity Big Brother and FOX’s The Resident had 5.4 million each.
Champions getting over 3 million viewers more than the second most-watched show of the night is definitely impressive, but what’s even more impressive is that the show has seen almost no drop-off in viewership numbers since the first week. The first two episodes had approximately 9.9 million viewers, and this week only saw a decrease of 0.2 million. Most shows see a significant decline in viewership in the weeks after the premiere before things level off a few episodes in, but we’re almost at the halfway point of the season and so far Champions has remained quite consistent the whole way through. Amazing!
America’s Got Talent: The Champions airs Monday nights at 8/7 c on NBC.
