The 2025 premiere of America’s Got Talent is right around the corner. With the show’s premiere coming around the corner, judges, Howie Mandel, Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, and Mel B, alongside host Terry Crews sat down with Kelly Clarkson to discuss the legendary 20th season.

America’s Got Talent Season 20 Features Format Change, More Similar to a Reality Show

While sitting down with Kelly Clarkson on The Kelly Clarkson Show earlier this week, America’s Got Talent Season 20 judges and host all discussed the upcoming season. This season, the show’s twentieth, will be completely different in the past. When asked about the difference in formatting, Mel B immediately joked that she’s the difference this season, since its her first time returning to the main show’s judging panel since 2018.

Cowell then took the reins of the conversation, saying exactly how this season will be different. Apparently, the season will air more similarly to a reality show.

“I’m excited to show I’d say 40% more of the process, i.e. what goes on behind the scenes,” Cowell said. “So what’s it like to be a contestant? What’s it like doing Terry’s job? You know, because a lot of what Terry does, you actually don’t seen on the show or even us.”

Cowell went on to admit that a ton of the host’s job is often not seen given time restraints. To combat this, the AGT team decided to put “more cameras everywhere.” Vergara admitted that it was more like filming a reality show.

Fans will be able to see “what was a day like, a real day like when we do an audition and just show it exactly.” This more humanizing format will help fans connect a bit more to their favorite acts this season.

Overall, the goal was to freshen up the show for the 20th season. Mandel admitted that it’s “not like any season ever before.”

“It is real, we did day for date,” Mandel said. “You’re seeing what we saw in the order we saw it, how we react, you know, and in the past it was like a lot of other shows edited and produced. This is like you are experiencing it as you’re watching it.”

Mel B and Sofia Vergara Had an Instant Connection

Season 20 is Sofia Vergara’s first season without former fellow judge Heidi Klum. Going into this season, Vergara admits “I was worried because I love Heidi so much and we had such a great time together.” Luckily, Vergara hit it off with Mel B almost instantly.

“I thought I was going to miss Heidi and I didn’t,” she said. “No I’m kidding I’m kidding! No Heidi knows how much I love her, she’s like my favorite person in the world.”

When talking about going into this season without Klum, Vergara touched on what it was liking working with her for five seasons. Vergara even admits that Klum more or less showed her the ropes.

“She taught me a lot about the show because I was new and you know you’re always nervous and I missed her,” Vergara said. “I missed being with her but I was worried that I was not going to get along with her [Mel B] and I did.”

Cowell admits that sitting next to Mel B is like sitting next to a firework, “you don’t know what’s going to light it.” He also said that the dynamic was a ton of fun.

Fans cannot wait to see the connection between Mel B and Vergara this season. America’s Got Talent premieres on Tuesday, May 27 at 8PM ET on NBC. Be sure to tune in so you don’t miss a second of the brand new season.
