‘American Idol’ Top 16 Are Revealed and Perform

American Idol Season 19 returned on Sunday night, as the results of last week’s fan vote were revealed. The Top 24 was narrowed down to the Top 16.
America’s vote determined the top eight singers from each night of last week’s All-Star Duets and Solos round. Ryan Seacrest announced the results during the show.

Alyssa Wray
Alyssa performed “Killing Me Softly with His Song” by Roberta Flack. Katy Perry called it “a vibe,” praising Alyssa’s run during the song. She called her “an artist for the first time in my eyes.” Luke Bryan praised the song choice.
Graham DeFranco
Graham performed “That’s Life” by Frank Sinatra. Luke said he has a “timeless voice,” and is being himself. Lionel Richie told Graham that his fun is infectious. Katy called it “the best song for your voice.”
Grace Kinstler
Grace performed “Elastic Heart” by Sia. Lionel called her a “force to be reckoned with.” Katy said it was a “perfect example” of storytelling through performance. Luke called her voice a “thoroughbred.”
Alanis Sophia
Alanis performed “The Story” by Brandi Carlile. Katy praised her song choice and said she’s “keeping it together” despite the stress. Luke advised her to “get your breath” in the low end of her voice.
Willie Spence
Willie performed “Set Fire to the Rain” by Adele. Lionel stood up and told Willie that “God took control of you,” calling it a “brilliant performance.” Katy agreed that he was “possessed, in a godly way.”
Deshawn Goncalves
Deshawn sang “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone. Lionel said he handled the performance “like a pro.” Katy praised his confidence, saying there were “no mistakes.” Luke said it was “inspiring” to watch his growth.
Wyatt Pike
Wyatt performed “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon. Katy called him “an authentic singer-songwriter,” but said she wants to see him “bring us to tears.” Luke said he’ll be able to perform music his whole life.

Cassandra Coleman
Cassandra performed “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak. Luke praised Cassandra’s verses, but wanted her to “soar more” on the chorus. Katy said she wants to see Cassandra perform on tour, saying she’ll “ace” it.
Caleb Kennedy
Caleb performed “Midnight Train to Memphis” by Chris Stapleton. Lionel said he’s “stone cold.” Katy loved his mystery and said he’s “becoming the outlaw.” Luke praised him for keeping true to himself as an artist.
Colin Jamieson
Colin sang “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears. Katy said she saw “a whole new side of you.” Luke told Colin, “You can sing your butt off.” Lionel said he was “having the time of your life.”
Casey Bishop
Casey performed “Black Hole Sun” by Soundgarden. Luke called it “really impressive.” Lionel said she goes from “fairy princess” to Janis Joplin, asking where her “extra pair of lungs are.” Katy called it her best performance.
Madison Watkins
Madison performed “Gravity” by Sara Bareilles. Lionel said Madison’s voice tells a story, and complimented her “perfect presentation.” Katy told her that it surprised her, and showed off a “serious side” of her.
Beane
Beane sang “Searching for a Feeling” by Thirdstory. Katy praised him for taking risks, and Luke told him he had “amazing vocals.” Lionel said his fans will be in love with him for staying true to who he is.
Hunter Metts
Hunter performed “Skinny Love” by Bon Iver. Luke praised the “angst” in his performance, saying no one else sounds like him. Lionel said he had “instant identity,” and Katy said she loved the “growl” he has.
Ava August
Ava sang “2002” by Anne-Marie. Katy called Ava “classic,” saying that “classic trumps cool.” Luke told her not to lose the “elegance and grace” that she displayed during her Top 24 performance last week.

Chayce Beckham
Chayce sang “Waiting in Vain” by Bob Marley. Katy told Chayce that America sees his authenticity. Luke asked him for advice on “how to be cool.” Lionel said people identify with Chayce, calling him a “real guy.”
