‘American Idol’ Season 20 Schedule Expands to Two Nights a Week

American Idol is changing up its schedule for Season 20 starting next week. The show will air on both Sunday and Monday as we finish up the audition round before moving on to Hollywood Week. The Oscars will also cause yet another shake-up in the schedule.
‘American Idol’ Season 20 Changes Up Its Schedule
American Idol is keeping fans on their toes with an unpredictable schedule as the season continues. The show will return to its traditional Sunday night slot on ABC March 20, as the judges continue to hear auditions from singers around the country.
Now that The Bachelor has finished up its most recent season, Idol will also air a new episode on Monday, March 21. The judges still have one more Platinum Ticket to give out to a talented contestant, so we’ll most likely get to see that happen at some point in the next two episodes.
On Sunday, March 27, the Oscars will bump Idol from its usual time slot. However, ABC recently announced in a press release that the show will air yet another round of auditions that night after the awards, at 11:35 p.m.-12:35 a.m. EDT/9:02-10:02 p.m. MDT/8:02-9:02 p.m. PDT.
The show is calling this episode “505A.” Viewers are encouraged to check their local listings. Interestingly, TV Guide currently lists that time slot as belonging to an “Oscars Post-Show.”

Hollywood Week Kicks Off on Monday, March 28
After the auditions wrap up, American Idol moves on to Hollywood Week, as all the singers with a Golden Ticket compete for a spot in the next stage of the competition. Platinum Ticket recipients will get to skip the first round of Hollywood Week this season.
The first episode of Hollywood Week is the Genre Challenge. It will air Monday, March 28. Hollywood Week will continue with the Duets Challenge on Sunday, April 3. The entire Hollywood Week round is notorious for its grueling schedule and the stress contestants face as they fight to stay in the competition.
