‘American Idol’ Season 20 Platinum Ticket Winner HunterGirl Releases EP

American Idol‘s first platinum ticket recipient of the season, HunterGirl, released an EP on March 18. This viral country singer released a five track EP ahead of the rigorous Hollywood Week portion of the competition.
HunterGirl has rose to fame since receiving the first ever Platinum Ticket on season 20 of American Idol. This 23 year old singer has been active on social media since receiving the honor. On March 17, the country singer shared the news of her surprise EP titled One Day.
HunterGirl’s EP Confirms That She’s “The New Age Miranda Lambert”
The following day the singer published a video in her car. Before beginning to play her new song, she shared that its inspiration came from a guy that ghosted her. She joked and said that she hopes her fans can enjoy her pain. She then went on to sing along to the track “Houdini.” This song has a strong country-pop vibe with extremely detailed lyrics.
“Houdini” is very easy to jam out to, so I hope it breaks through to the country industry. This song is truly the best teaser for this EP. Even though there are some slower paced songs within the five tracks, they all contain her strong songwriting.
After listening to this EP, I can fully agree with Luke Bryan calling HunterGirl the new age Miranda Lambert. The two singers have a similar twang in their voice and style of music. Lambert’s music is also fast paced with a bit of a pop vibe. The country icon is also known for having music that is lyrically strong.

Will She Follow in Chayce Beckham’s Footsteps?
HunterGirl is an extremely talented singer, but I think her songwriting is what will make her a standout in the competition. The judges were totally right when they saw her potential in the audition, so I really hope she takes a similar route to Chayce Beckham with original music.
While Beckham impressed the judges and rightfully made it to the live shows, he skyrocketed to fame from his original songs. Some fans would even argue that his original songs were the reason he won the series. It wouldn’t surprise me if HunterGirl goes this route on American Idol since she’s no stranger to the art of songwriting.
Outside of creating her own music, HunterGirl works with Freedom Sings USA as a music therapy songwriter. Her songwriting position has her writing veterans’ stories into songs. This five track EP emphasizes that this country artist is a strong songwriter at only 23 years old.
American Idol‘s Hollywood week kicks off on March 28 on ABC. In this week of the competition, each Golden Ticket recipient fights for a spot in the next round. HunterGirl gets to skip the first round of Hollywood week because of her platinum ticket. The first round of Hollywood week is the Genre Challenge, while the second is the Duets Challenge.
ABC encourages fans to check their local listings for next sunday’s episode of the series. American Idol will air in a different time slot because of the Oscar Award Ceremony. The series has officially transitioned to the beginning of its two night a week format for season 20.
