‘American Idol’ Judge Katy Perry Releases Track From ‘Dear Evan Hansen’
Reading Time: 2 minutes
We all know Katy Perry can sing a pop song better than almost anyone. That’s why she was picked to be a judge on American Idol, after all. What we haven’t seen Katy do yet is some theater. I personally think with her pipes and energy that she could totally pull it off. Perhaps she is auditioning for Broadway with her version of Waving through the Window from Dear Evan Hansen.
The track was released today as part of a deluxe two volume album cast album that has bonus tracks, rehearsals, and other goodies. Dear Even Hansen is about a young man who suffers from anxiety and depression who is told by a therapist to write himself a letter every day. The show is heartbreaking, beautiful, and inspirational. That’s why Katy decided to do the song. She appreciates its message of hop to those that are suffering from mental health issues. Katy said,
“In my own life, I’ve struggled with depression, and like so many, always feeling alone in the battle of wanting to belong. I wanted to not only to help launch the [musical’s] national tour, but to continue the conversation on mental health and all its complexities. I hope this song helps you know that you are not alone and that I’m waving back at you.”
Plus, it’s an incredibly beautiful song. Dear Evan Hansen is going on tour and if it comes to your town I highly suggest you go see it.
