‘American Idol’ Announces Bebe Rexha, Jimmie Allen As Celebrity Mentors

American Idol revealed their new mentors for the upcoming season of the series. As many fans of the show know, Bobby Bones will not return this season due to scheduling conflicts. Bebe Rexha and Jimmie Allen will stand in as mentors in his place.
American Idol is currently filming performances at Disney’s Aulani Resort on the island of O’ahu. It’s been previously reported that the show will be filming a concert at the beach. They previously teased that contestants would be helped by celebrity mentors. The ticket website confirms that the Top 24 will be performing in Hawaii.
“What’s up y’all we’re here at the Disney’s Aulani Resort and I am a mentor on the 20th season of American Idol,” Allen said in the video announcement. “I cannot wait for you guys to see the talent we have in store for you.”
This is American Idol’s third time filming at Aulani since the rebooted seasons began on ABC in 2018. Before this season, singers had the opportunity to go to Hawaii in seasons 17 and 18 following Hollywood Week. In the past, the trip to O’ahu was the reward for successfully making it past the phase of the competition.
Formatting for this portion of the competition is currently unclear. In the past every singer awarded a Golden Ticket and surpassed Hollywood Week has continued on to O’ahu, so it seems like this season will play out the same.
Platinum Tickets Give Singers a Great Advantage
In addition to the traditional Golden Tickets that send singers to Hollywood Week, judges will be handing out nine Platinum Tickets, three in Nashville, three in Austin and three in Los Angeles. Perry has already shared that the new ticket sends the singer to Hollywood Week with a shortcut, but she recently revealed what the use of this ticket truly is.
“This ticket gives them the ability to go to Hollywood Week, which we’ve already filmed and was so rigorous and survival of the fittest, and they get to basically observe from the box seats at the theater,” Perry said. “One day, they get to rest their voice, strategize, check out the competition and select who they want to duet with.”
Judges have shared that the decision of Platinum Tickets were almost unanimous. Getting a platinum ticket means that the judges think the singer is the best of the best.
